2.1 UCAS

This is one of the most important aspects when generating a UCAS personal statement, as its required for most universities. The purpose of this, is to summarize my skills, abilities and interests which would be of value to my chosen University courses. A personal statement is used as an accurate portrayal of your character, which is something your application relies on when applying.

UCAS Statement Plan:

This is my UCAS statement plan, which you can find on the official personal statement site as a template. I used this as my starting point for writing my first draft, as it gives you talking points on what the university looks for within a student. This draft allowed me to talk about my areas of interest for the course, my experience, studies and personal interests and hobbies, so they get a gain a clear image of who I am, and why I want to persist Games Design as a career opportunity.

UCAS Drafting (1)

For my first draft, I took consideration of the first points which talk about my interest in Games Design as a whole, here I spoke about my interest in Games Development, the software I have developed my knowledge in, and how this is useful towards the courses criteria. I had to first draft up sentences without filling in details such as the grades, as it gave me elements to expand upon later if need me. The sentences I wasn’t clear on yet were marked with an asterisk, so I could go back and write up more detail if need be.

I then expanded upon my ideas, and focused on the activities I took part in that represent my interest in the course. Here I referred to our Christmas Game-jam that the class took part in during the first year, as well as EGX Rezzed, which I have attended twice, for the whole duration of studying Games Development. These points were helpful, and crucial to making me stand out which extra curricular activities related to my interests.

UCAS (final) Personal Statement:

This is my completed Personal Statement, ready for my UCAS application. I went over my drafts, ensuring that it met the character count, and I corrected any grammar and punctuation issues. I am happy with the final draft, as I continued to correct and develop my sentences until they flowed, and were simple yet still sophisticated for the reader, one of the points made on the UCAS website when writing your personal statement. My planning process was a large help, as it allowed me to create my basic sentences, and then develop from that. As well as remove the irrelevant facts. Once this was continued a few times over, the final draft has been completed to an acceptable level.

Student Finance Code:

When completing my UCAS application form, certain aspects within this included our university preferences of where we wanted to attend, depending on our specialism. Our education and qualifications gained throughout our school and college years, as well as general personal information. To provide proof of this, the main areas in which we focused on during this session, was our finance code, which allowed us to see what fees we would be entitled too depending on our nationality, as well as the student support arrangement’s that this would entail.

Personal Qualifications:

One of the most important aspects besides our financial support, would be our current collected qualifications during school, college, and other forms of education certificates. These qualifications decide whether or not you have the correct amount of UCAS tariff points, as well as having some of the right qualifications (usually English Language and Mathematics) are required for my chosen specific courses. Collectively, I have gained qualifications during my secondary education, as well as further education within college, additions to this such as B-TEC’S can also be recorded within this sector.

University Choices:

Finally, preparing for our further education into University, we began by looking into our options for the different types of facilities that would supply us with a course that best fits our specialization. Due to my developed interest within both 2D and 3D artwork, as well as narrative story-writing. Many different universities fit these interests such as location, what they have to offer in terms of study, as well as the environment of the place itself.

UCAS Application Checklist:

Now that I have completed my Personal Statement, my application is ready to be processed and completed. As I am deferring a year, all of my application details are filled out and ready for when I officially send them off, which is the most important aspect in ensuring that my details are ready and complete for the university/s I apply for.
